I'm not so sure it sucks. In under 70 lines of "code", I was able to create a simple application to cleanse a dataset. In terms of the ratio of productivity to lines of code, Django is really useful.

There are obviously times when you need a tool that is more specific to your requirements, but I've found Django to be a great general purpose framework with a very low barrier to entry.
