Ask HN: What has changed in Java in the last few years?

I am looking at new roles and see plenty of Java opportunities.

I programmed Java in the past, but haven't really used it 8 years (since version 1.6 as far as I can remember). What changes / improvements have gone on in the language in the last few years? Are there any good places to find out this sort of thing?
