Ask HN: Do developers need a rating and review site for tools?

Basically: discover, rate, and review development tools/apps. From frameworks (e.g. Meteor) to actual tools such as Elasticsearch and Postman. When I'm searching for great tools I use platforms like Stackshare and Siftery, but these don't have a rating & review system which is what they're lacking in my opinion, meaning it's sometimes difficult to distinguish the best from the rest.

If you're familiar with Getapp, the business app platform, this concept I'm talking about would be the Getapp for developer tools/apps/utilities instead of business tools (it would have to have a very large database of many development tools). I'd personally use it to discover new tools and see other developers' reviews of those tools, perhaps explaining how they used them.

I've only got feedback from one other developer so far. Quote: "I would like to see such a service, currently when making technology choices I scan through many things, including developer blogs, and also attempt prototypes. Technology choice mistakes in dev can be hugely expensive. However, I think the level of engagement needed to understand a specific goal and recommend a "best" solution is too hard to productise, and you take a very large risk attempting to build this."
