I agree 100%, the sooner people get over their petty tribal instincts the better. Unfortunately it's still a few generations away. We have made huge strides against racism, homophobia, sexism, etc. in the last couple of generations so I have hope.
I wouldn't let this stuff skew your view of the industry. If you're pro-diversity then nobody with hiring power anywhere you want to work is anti-diversity, so you don't need to care about the people who are.
Just because we're the one usually excluded from photos encouraging diversity, since for some reason we're oppressing, even though we've driven the tech ecosystem for ages. And by driving, I mean, working our asses off, hoping for help, no matter what color, gender, sex, etc.
The fact that you're benefiting from the system does not imply that you are oppressing. Matter of fact, in quite a few studies women are just as prejudiced against women as men.
So don't take it so personally. It's not about you but about the society we all want to build together.

I would hardly call it a backlash or even outrage. The observation being made is that they're specifically excluding a prominent demographic in their attempts at appearing inclusive or cross cultural.
The message being sent isn't "we're all equal", it's "we don't need/want you."
There is definitely a backlash, we're seeing it in multiple communities and it's culmination in political movements like Brexit and the Trump presidency.

You should take a look at the Waitangi tribunal in New Zealand which redresses historical injustices to the Maori, it's not perfect but is a good illustration on a society owning up to its mistakes and trying to fix them and returns billions of dollars worth of assets to Iwi.
The other thing that you seem to forget is that Mozilla is a global company, it has a bigger market presence in countries outside of the US and so it needs to tailor its marketing for a world audience. Less than 10% of the worlds population is of European descent, therefore you'd say that Europeans are over represented in the marketing.

The reason you're facing a backlash, and the inherit problem with your position is that you're stereotyping every Caucasian as a being born with a silver spoon in their mouth and completely dismissing any and all hardships they've faced. In New Zealand we have a tribunal who's goal is to pay for any atrocities and acts of theft perpetrated by the British Empire, a completely different country to modern day NZ, yet we as a society do it because it's the right thing to do.
I'm sure historically Maori were convicted disproportionate to crimes. Modern day? Well just in the court. The Treaty of Waitangi is for historic issues.
