Ask HN: Your recommended urban studies reading

Hi everyone,

I have a few topics I'm interested in learning more about and thought I'd seek the help of some of the smartest folks I know (on the internet and have never met). Specifically, I'm looking for books, blogs, magazines, etc. that could give more perspective on:

1) Gentrification - arguments for, against, alternative

2) "Solving" Homelessness - different perspectives on solutions, examples from other countries, what have you.

3) Law enforcement - comparative of US vs other nations. I've wiki-read about the Peelian Principles and curious about alternative ways of policing, crime reduction, rehabilitation

A few things I read/have read: "The Works" - Kate Ascher, Jane Jacobs, LAtitudes, BLDGBLOG (and Manaugh's books), urbankchoze's blog, The Rent is Too Damn High

I'm in LA and would like to be better read about some of these issues.
