Ask HN: Get uninterested students to care about privacy, coding and tech in gen?

Hi, wonderful people of HN!

I run an open source community-cum-free software and online rights awareness group in college. However, I have noticed that most new students to college are largely not interested about important matters like privacy and digital security. Perhaps we could change our approach a little to become more welcoming and appealing to such beginners?

Any suggestions are welcome.
