Ask HN: Google no longer hiring Software Engineers in Zurich?

I've been keeping tabs on the job openings for Google Zurich [0], but as of the last few months the general "Software Engineer" position that used to exist has been strangely missing.

The only engineering positions listed are: * Software Engineer, PhD University Graduate * Release Engineer * Sales Engineer * iOS Software Engineer * Software Engineer, Mobile Applications (Android) * Front-End Software Engineer * Software Engineer, Research and Machine Intelligence

None of those seem like a good fit for me. I don't have a PhD and my background is systems and application programming, mainly in C++. Front-End development is not my area at all; and while I have done some mobile development on Android, I would rather not do it professionally. I also don't have any experience with Machine Learning, nor do I want to get into research.

So overall it looks pretty dire. Have all the backend/infrastructure C++ jobs dried up?
