I never bring my main phone when going on vacations. I purchased a cheap phone which can run some travel apps (ie: TripAdvisor) and on which I can keep a cached copy of the maps I might need to use, plus some info. Once those apps are installed, I remove my Google account from the device.
I don't have my email account logged in (I do have my 2FA backup codes on a paper sheet in my wallet) and no personal/social media account logged in.
If they want to wipe out the device, so be it. I'll just have to reconfigure those things later on. And if the device is stolen, well that sucks but it's not an expensive loss.
If you do choose to bring your main device it's a good idea to enable the "erase after x failed passcode attempts" option so that you can erase it without unlocking. Also instead of deleting your whole os you could just delete local data/apps but that may still be recoverable if they actually image the unallocated space. (Does anyone here know if that is the case with any popular tool?)
