Ask HN: The wrong kind of DevOps, Jump ship?

Throw away for obvious reason. i am a seasoned developer working on industrial software, recently i made the jump to devops thinking it would be cool and by lordy am i shocked at some of the practices. Please bear in mind while you read, this devops role is supposed to be 60% coding (scripts, custom software etc...)

since day one things began to stink, i started suspecting something was off when i noticed that none of them have actually released software into the wild before (you can tell by the questions they ask)

My supposedly senior colleagues don't have a development background and are glorified sys admins (and very bad ones at that - i could elaborate but then i will digress), the "code" written by these senior guys is the equivalent of a thirteen year old discovering Lego at a very late stage, mediocre to say the least but also embarrassing, no one who writes code that bad should be employed.

More importantly and (frustratingly) is that none of them accept the feedback being given (i have led teams so i know how to dispense them and always wary not to hurt someone's feeling ), partly because i joined after them but also because of sheer arrogance ( you know the kind of guys you show them something new and they 'oh i knew that' already) .

My manager doesn't really care.

i am constantly being offer the opportunity to apply for other jobs and have been ignoring them for a while, i am now thinking of jumping ship, which is sad because i love what i do but my manager is refusing to let me make changes.

Have you had a similar experience, as a developer who moved to devops, what were your observations about previous-sys-admin-now-devops guys trying to write code, were your feedback taken into consideration?
