Why are Computer Vision salaries so much lower than Machine Learning?

Looking at salary numbers online, a CV scientist salary can be roughly 15% - 30% lower than ML scientist salaries. What explains this (more specifically than supply/demand)? Thanks!

I remember Jeff Hawkins said in an interview that CV has less money in it than most people think.
every business is a data business -> every business can benefit from machine learning.

most businesses are do not benefit from CV.

most companies who do hire for CV require a PhD plus years of work experience, publications in top tier magazines etc. its glorified scientific masturbation.
