Ask HN: Is stack smashing still exploitable?

Stack smashing was a common technique to gain control of programs several years ago. Since then a number of mitigations have been implemented including canaries and ASLR.

Has this been sufficient to mitigate this attack vector or is it still a common exploit vector?
