Ask HN: How much does every extra percent of equity require you to work?

I've recently got an offer for engineering work at a company for a market rate salary and 2% ownership share on a 4 year vesting schedule, and have been working with them and happy for over a year. I am used to working 80 hour weeks, I work on weekends and in my downtime and frankly enjoy what I do in the hours of work that I put.

Obviously, some employees will have bigger ownership shares for understandable reasons that they have been in the company since the start, other employees and advisors have the same ownership share I do, but with the quality of work and the effort they put in they seem like they work much less hours.

I'm not interested in picking a fight here, but I'm curious to know how ownership share should actually affect how much work you put it, the latter being somewhat directly related to the number of hours and number of overnights you end up doing to get that work done.

If you're at market rate, you would be at 45 hour work weeks. At 2% equity, you give your work some extra time and maybe think about designs and solutions in your downtime and at home during weird hours. But say that ownership share was at 5%, or you're down to no salary and 2% ownership, does that make a difference in the overtime you're supposed to put in?
