Ask HN: What's with the YouTube upgrade dark pattern?

YouTube App on Android.

I am asked to upgrade and thus give the app more permissions. If I don't want to I am forced to wait 30s to use the app. Each time the screen dims to save power I also have to wait 30s.

Come on Google.
