What a quite useless post. I am not fond of Facebook and would advise people not to use it. But the part about "Zucker douche didn't build something so trivial as a computer programming language or cure a disease or something." is just silly.

Getting a product like facebook out there and popular is a combination of a good idea, persistance, a healthy dose of luck and actually _doing something_.

In addition, writing "Zucker Douche" lowers the value of the text quite a bit. :-)

I see there was a point the author was trying to make, but it seems like the execution of the point was done badly. (like other social platform ideas by others, who had a good idea but failed to execute it)

I am going to have to agree with you. Whoever wrote this post.. I mean, c'mon. Sounds like pure jealousy.

Building an empire and becoming a billionaire is not an easy accomplishment. At the time when he built it, I'm sure his goals were small. He wanted to make it easier for communication between him and his buddies at Harvard. Then it expanded.

To say that he wouldn't volunteer any of his billions... it's not his place to fix society, but to influence it for the better. Sure, Zuckerberg has some dreams of changing the world beyond Facebook, and he's trying, but it isn't always cut and dry.

Sure, most people do let fame and fortune go to their head. Zuckerberg does what he can to protect himself and his family. I'm pretty sure he didn't grow up less fortunate than many people, but it seems he was a decently raised kid. Him recalling his time in a dorm room is the same as the time I dreamed about building a website that would later become semi-popular. I ended up building a website called http://www.confessionsoftheprofessions.com

Is it the next Facebook? Absolutely not. Do I need to build the next Facebook? Does anyone? Not really. The fact is... Zuckerberg capitalized in on something that the world had never really seen and made it free. Before this, we had pretty much had AOL and instant messaging.

Reflecting on things you did in the past... that got you to where you are today? Don't we all do that? I mean.. a decade ago, I wouldn't have dreamed of being a web developer or even owning my house. Amazing at the things I've done to get where I am today.

Sounds like the writer of this article is a jealous douche. I'd love to make something that would make me a billionaire, but I didn't think of Facebook. I don't even think of creating the next Facebook. But what Facebook has inspired me to do: create small useful apps that the world can use. Start small. Dream big.

Thanks Insanity.. for saying what needed to be said.

The blogging aspect of this site is meant to be satire/realist in the sense that most of the IT world has lost any semblance of normalcy. Zuckerberg didn't discover quantum theory or anything which saves lives or even changes our lives for the better. He built a massive social network with plenty of skill but also a ton of luck around who you know and where you came from. He also wasn't the first to come up with this idea. In addition, some actually claim he stole the idea from the Winklevoss twins at Harvard. This is disputed, but they we're convincing enough to walk away with hundreds of millions in a settlement.

I think many are tired of hearing how great of a guy Mark Zuckerberg is, because if you peel back the layers, he's just another billionaire hypocrite.

In my book, I'd put many of the founding fathers of computer science over Zuckerberg anyway. He had a wildly successful business but so have millions of other people. Facebook has been relevant for a little over 10 years and none of the cool kids are using it anymore.

What? Why is this here. I come to HN to specifically avoid obscene mindnumbing drivel such as this. Please delete.
