Health Benefits of Blueberries on the Brain
Blueberries mainly get their antioxidant power from anthocyanins. You might have heard of them, they are also contained in red wine.
Blueberries actually contain more anthocyanins compared with the grapes used to make red wine, so put down your wine glass and pick up your blueberry punnet! They are also a great source of vitamin K, vitamin C, fibre, manganese and other antioxidants.
For us to understand why antioxidants are an essential part of our daily diets, it is important to understand a little bit about free-radicals. Free radicals are molecules that cause damage to the cells in our bodies, including cells in our brains.
We can see the damage free-radicals do, by looking at our skin. Take sunburn for example, that’s free-radical damage. We don’t have the luxury of being able to see our brains, so we can’t see the damage done by free-radicals with our own eyes. As a consequence we therefore tend to forget about our brain health. If only our skulls were transparent..on second thoughts it might not be the best look!
The bad news is these free-radicals cause inflammation in the brain which can lead to all sorts of problems namely anxiety, brain fog, memory loss and in the long run diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. But the good news is we have powerful antioxidants like those contained in blueberries on our side!! Antioxidants work by destroying these harmful free-radicals and it is for this reason why blueberries are fantastic for brain health and for concentration.
The Memoraid formula contains a highly concentrated blueberry extract which is packed full of these powerful antioxidants. The pharmacists at Memoraid selected blueberry extract to be a part of their unique brain formula for this reason.
