Ask HN: How do you reimburse a signing bonus?

I'm planning on leaving my job after a month in. It didn't work as expected unfortunately. The company gave me a signing bonus of $10K, which I will have to be reimburse if I leave during the first year (prorated). My question is - do I have to reimburse the gross amount or the net amount after tax?
