Ask HN: How to recognize fingerprints?

I have a project of student attendance and I want to store their fingerprint in server. When the student to be present he need to use the fingerprint sensor put his finger , it will be sent to server that will compare his fingerprint. How can I make my server recognize fingerprint I searched a lot and there is really few to no code about fingerprint recognition. is there more sophisticated solution for this problem.
