Ask HN: Does the Heirarchy of Needs explain fewer women founders in tech?
I remember heated discussions in school surrounding Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs particularly as it related to men vs. women. It is said that women need safety more than men. Given that a startup is a high risk endeavor, I was just wondering if this could help to explain the lower number of female founders in tech. It seems the easy explanation is access, the bro culture, ageism, treatment of women in the tech industry, etc. Thoughts?
Further, if women are more financially secure after their kids are on their own or after establishing themselves in their career, wouldn't that translate to more female lead startups formed by older female founders? It is so easy to speculate but maybe their is an instinctual basis that is being overlooked.
