Not true. The European press in general has no issue calling the occupied territories in Palestine 'occupied territories', and the Israeli colonies 'colonies'. This is solely a US media problem, and even then it's known enough that Jon Stewart famously mocked it [1].

The territories are land assigned to Israel by the UN which were grabbed by Jordan -- there never was a country/nation called Palestine. Israel recovered them in a defensive war. It's prefectly legal and "occupation" is an anti-semite distortion by those who want Jews neither in their countries, nor in their own.

The Palestinian territories were never assigned to the Jewish state. The UN partition plan [1] assigned these territories to an Arab state.

Palestinians' only protection is from the Israeli supreme court, which has been legalising Israeli occupation.
Meanwhile, Jewish residents living in those same territories (sometimes on land confiscated from its original Palestinian owners), enjoy the full protection of Israeli law, and all citizen and human rights afforded by Israeli law.
Two ethnic groups, living in the same area, in separate communities. One group has citizen rights, the other doesn't. One group is ruled by Israeli democracy, the other is ruled by a military officer. This is _de-facto_ an apartheid regime.
