Ask HN: On Facebook: why are event invites unblockable?

There is no way to get rid of event notifications (even comments or changes) and event invites from friends without unfriending them. Why?

Is local events still such a contested market that they need to push that?

Event notifications can be turned off by clicking the ellipsis and changing your notification settings: https://www.facebook.com/help/356258654474400

You do have an option. Under the event page hit the little three dots and then you realize you have all of these options:

Notification Settings Close

All Notifications Any time posts are made in this event

Highlights Important notifications about this event, such as posts from friends and hosts

Host Updates Only Any time a host posts in this event

Off No notifications about posts in this event
