Ask HN: What fingers do you use to type special characters?

Referring specifically to those in the upper right corner of the keyboard, like [], {}, =, +, -, _, (). Typing these characters really slow me down, was wondering if others are having the same issue and/or how do you overcome this?

Generally, I touch type them with the standard fingers. I use a US keyboard layout and that might (or might not) have some relevance. I find better lighting helps...e.g. all those keys are harder to type in darkness so my touch typing probably utilizes peripheral vision. On the other hand, those keys tend to be slower and less accurate than ordinary characters, even with practice.

But practice seems to be the key.
