Ask HN: Is there any evidence Rolling-Releases improve software quality?
In my experience with lots of different software, it does the exact opposite. For example: macOS Snow Leopard (10.6) is still my favorite release. I recently used it on an old machine and it felt snappier and more responsive than Sierra (10.12) on a modern macBook Pro. It was also the longest release window from the previous release: 672 days. And I'm tempted to believe this was no coincidence.
I believe software should be released when it is ready, not when the marketing team decided "it is time" or "customers prefer it like that". And this is especially curious since Apple was known for delivering "what customers did not know they wanted".
What are your experiences with software you use? Or if you work in a development team, what are your experiences with your own software development?
Thanks!
