Ask HN: Bad meetups?

The last two tech meetups I attended (different groups on different technology) were really disappointing.

In one, the presenter seemed to be high. It was an intro talk but I don't think he ever even explained what the technology was. He just jumped around from one unrelated topic to another.

More recently, I attended a talk where the speaker spilled beer on the podium and did not have a presentation prepared so he sort of stumbled his way through the talk until the last 10 minutes where he covered everything pertinent.

I was annoyed for each of these because I traveled quite a long way to be there and didn't feel like the presenters were respectful of the audience's time. At the same time, I am grateful for the groups and the ability to learn in a group environment.

Am I looking at this thing the wrong way?
