Meta HN: UI/UX comments about the sites of stories

1 points by kbody ↗ HN
It's nothing new, but comments that just talk about/criticize the site's UI/UX of the story instead of the store itself has always been a deductive element on the actual discussion of why an item got an attention.

So many times, people either praise the X UI element of the site or the lack/low quality of Y.

There are probably several opinions around it. E.g: nothing is broken, that's why we have up/downvotes. Another one could say that since it's about our craft it's only logical we comment and focus on it. Another could say that we could have two comment trees, one for issues/critic of site and another for the rest+actual story discussion.

Anyone else have thought about this and maybe possible ways to improve the situation?

Downvotes are a mechanism for expressing the view that a comment makes Hacker News worse. Adding a critique mode would suggest that critiques are a primary purpose of Hacker News and perhaps encourage more of that.

The caveat is that I advocate downvoting as a way of expressing emotion because I consider it more constructive than many alternatives.

Good luck.
