Ask HN: Advice for mentoring?

I'm the lead on my dev team and we've just taken on a new apprentice.

It's been a while since we've had a new addition to the team and I'm worried that my mentorship skills are lacking.

I don't want to let the new start and the team down so I'm looking for as much advice as possible.
