Ask HN: How can I better understand VCs?

I've been part of executive teams interacting with VCs. I've pitched (with limited success) to VC. And I've assisted investors with their DD and understanding the market (paid consulting).

I still don't feel I have a good understanding of their mindset. What can I read to better understand VC motivations? Are their any forums where VCs discuss the current environment or even just their opinions on various deals?
