Ask HN: Where is E-mail 2.0?

The Web has a number of groups focused on guiding the evolution of web based technologies. The DNS network has ICANN.

We owe it to ourselves to ensure E-mail evolves as much as the Web. Security, Privacy, Deliverability, and SPAM prevention, all these things need improvements. I've heard people say the focus these days is on Instant Messaging, but that's a misguided perspective, instant messaging IS E-mail, but it's privatized and proprietary instead of open and free.

E-mail used to have the IMC but they apparently ceased operations in 2002. Are there any other organizations focused on guiding E-mail's evolution?
