It's hard to tell how damaging patents have been to our industry. Have they set us back years? Decades? Or are we all mistaken and patents were responsible for growing our industry?

Either way, this is a lot of wasted effort solely due to the legal system. It's the opposite of a meritocracy. React might be best choice or it might not be; ideally the market would decide.

MY reading of ma.tt's post is that it is the license itself and the implications of it for downstream users of Automatic products. It doesn't seem to me that a FAQ is going to change that, as Facebook has made their position clear (clear enough for ma.tt, at least.)
Beating a dead horse. Facebook won't change it. That was settled already. This issue is just noise in the React devs' inbox. The devs have no say on company policy. They've already pointed that out.
Although I would not rebuild current projects to get away from the current React Licence (as the cost would outweigh the risk of being sued) – I am definitely looking for alternatives. Right now I can't responsibly start a new project using React with the current Licence. If Facebook has really no ill intention it shouldn't be a big deal to really Open Source React. I hope they do.
