Well he's clearly just trying to make a point. But I'd say it's a legitimate one. I should be able to study and admire Nazi or Mongol military tactics without automatically being branded a Nazi or Mongol sympathizer.

People have been studying WWII for 70 years without "automatically being branded" Nazi sympathizers. I'm not sure why you think that happens.

The auto-Nazi phenomenon is a more recent one; not even a year old. It's honestly disheartening seeing people reduce the meaning of these words to nil; they have grave, horrendous origins. People that are using them so meaninglessly are disrespecting the millions of people that have died in the vein of those words.

This is one of those things where you decide you are an adult and take some precaution, be sensitive and be nice and be wary of the optics of what you say.

But if someone else says such a thing, interpret what they say in the most charitable way possible and move on.

Really, move on guys. Don't make a mountain out of a molehill, just move on. Yes indeed I know you are not a Nazi sympathizer and I'm moving on.

Wouldn't you be studying WW2 era German military tactics rather than Nazi tactics? I'm genuinely curious, but I didn't think that Hitler invented Blitzkrieg.

This sounds like a bit from a 90s shock comic, but coming from a guy who has a lot of scrutiny for his views, and pack of people looking to dislike him more, it's no surprise this bombed on twitter. Probably best to keep such thoughts off off social media but I don't think reservation is one of Mr Damore's strong points.

Because what we really need is a situation where people self-censor when their views don't overlap with what's acceptable in the mainstream. That would be great, and nothing bad can come of it!
