That's an interesting question — I don't think it makes any suggestion about how to address this issue, though your suggestion would seem reasonable. If that doesn't work, I'd suggest trying BeeLine Reader (discl: I am the founder), a tool that uses color gradients to make reading on-screen easier. It's very popular in the dyslexia community, and this research could point to why.
