While you'll generally have a set of rows with a (more or less) consistent set of columns, the parser is capable of detecting blocks within a sheet that have to be treated differently (i.e., they go into a different "table"). On the other hand, by using spreadsheets as tables you lose 80% of the spreadsheet's flexibility and powers.
