StarCraft AI bot coding tournament SSCAIT (http://sscaitournament.com/) has been around for some time, but today they announced they're going to support Game AI research in a more direct way - the tournament wants to raise money to directly cover the education costs of a few PhD students. Here's the announcement - and as a bonus, a link to latest weekly StarCraft AI report by them:

* From now on, SSCAIT is officially organized by the Games & Simulations Research Group at Czech Technical University in Prague (http://gas.fel.cvut.cz/). In addition to running the tournament, the group's puspose is to enable a few students to do Game AI related research. * Starting today, SSCAIT has a new goal, in addition to its previous mission: Raise funds to cover the education costs of these students (it's really hard to finance Game AI research by traditional means here). * For this purpose, we've started a Patreon page: http://patreon.com/sscait We'll be very grateful if you go there and contribute to the education of students interested in Game AI, as well as to the tournament itself. * Our group is already working on several projects that will be useful for the SC AI community. All the projects will be open-source and I'll announce them here.
