Ask HN: How much ad revenue is from predicting demand versus creating it?
How do Google and other ad publishers prove to major brands that their advertising is effective and that the publishing of ads is creating demand versus predicting it? If an ad publisher had sufficient information to guess what a user was likely to do, they could cherry pick opportunities to show that user an advertisement even though they were already likely to be a customer and have a plausible story for legitimate impressions.
