There was some talk about netflix advertising their other shows between streams but once people threatened to cancel their subscriptions they scraped that.
> Jokes aside, I don't want to see too much of this at future consumer shows.
Don't worry, it only works if you don't expect it, else you get desensitized.
A world where this is the sole form of advertising is far, far better than the one with TV ads and billboards which we currently got. Why? Its informative, thought-provoking / stimulates critical thinking, its a form of humor, and it is very much optional / choice.
The only bad thing you get with Netflix, is DRM, and some heavy internal profiling to keep you hooked. But the latter is arguably a good thing.
The trailer makes it clear they're altering foundational details about the environment, including who the Envoy Corps even is. It still could be quite good, and I'm allowing my hopes to be high. But it will definitely be its own thing.
"The show itself, Altered Carbon, is set three hundred years into the future, at a time where human bodies are now interchangeable: Death just isn't a thing."
EDIT: Spoilers, indeed. Sorry!
Just finished the last episode of Season 4 Black Mirror called Black Museum [1] and it covers this subject as well. You can say the same about the infamous San Junipero [2].
You could even argue the manga/anime Ghost In The Shell is also about that [3].
Can recommend all of the above. Thought provoking, suspenseful, and emotionally touching.
