As a disclaimer: I believe the trial of Lula was fair.
The article whole point is that Brazilian democracy is in danger because of Lula's trial for corruption.
The second instance appeal ruled against Lula and actually increased his sentence. All 3 judges voted to confirm the first verdict (including 2 that were appointed by former president Dilma, Lula's protegee).
I believe the Brazilian democracy and its institutions are stronger because of this trial, not weaker. I hope we continue this very recent trend of putting corrupt politicians in jail.
I´m brazilian, I'm not from left or right! I voted in Lula twice! I voted Dilma for her first term, not for the second. And although I respect the author, I strongly disagree on this. Lula will be inellegible because of his acts, he lead a criminal organization and took advantages on this. Of course, the brazilian politician system is corrupted, It is not new, but I hope now Brazil is changing! We can not accept this anymore, even if will affect Lula or anyone else!
