Ask HN: Give potential shares to a collaborator

I'm working on a software which makes no money and is not finished yet. I found someone which would like to help working on it.

He agreed on a potential share if the product is successful. He works on it in his free time.

I'm in europe, he's in south asia. What is the correct approach here? Some sort of a simple contract? What % is fair?
