Ask HN: What do you expect from a bioinformatics contractor/consultant?

What are the essential skills you would expect a bioinformatics contractor/consultant to have?

I have a strong background in math and software, and I have done a bunch of work in biology over the years. Currently I work as a contractor on software and algorithms.

I have a friend who has offered to make an introduction to a group who need bioinformatics support.

I know that I have a lot of the skills required for bioinformatics, but probably not all. So I am hoping to figure out whether I have enough skills to make it worthwhile to talk with this group.
