Ask HN: How can I get an internship at a good Research lab?

I am an undergraduate Computer Science student from a decent University in India. I have prior experience in projects related to Machine learning and audio classification using deep learning. I would love to do a long term project at a research lab, specialising in Computer Vision. 1) What can I do to stand apart from the other applicants? 2) What qualities would research labs be interested in their prospective interns?
