It's more like an ad masquerading as an article. Self-promotion is good and more people should do it, but out in the open.

If Peter Thiel were an outspoken leftist supporter of Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders, he would be hailed as a hero for what he did to Gawker, or at the very least, it would be forgiven and forgotten. But Thiel has committed the most unpardonable sin of all: Having conservative/libertarian leanings, and not keeping quiet about them.
