We work in a poorly scalable field. How do we go from $100k to $1m?

My partner and I have seen moderate success in our first year as a quasi-SaaS digital services company.

After startup expenses, taxes, and some advertising, we were able to take home a little over $100k in our first year. I am beyond ecstatic about this because neither thought we would be profitable in the first year (we’re bootstrapping and quit our jobs at a small tech firm to start this).

However, we basically provide services to SMBs via a subscription model. Fulfillment is difficult, but not totally unscalable. We’ve been onboarding freelancers and though it’s hard to find good fits, it’s possible.

I’m not happy with splitting $100k, however. We’d both like to get it to $1m.

Our problem right now is that we seem to have plateaued. It’s like we exhausted our network. Onboarded a couple dozen clients. And...that’s it.

Where do we go from here?

Paid ads have worked well for us but due to bootstrapping it, that’s money directly from our pockets. I don’t know if we could afford to drop $20k on ads, for example.

I’m sorry for being vague, but without giving too much private info away I’d still like to get your valuable feedback.

We want to go from $100k to $1m. How?
