Ask HN: What do you as an alternative to Facebook?

I used to have a Facebook account but now I don't want to go back to it as I find it super creepy. But I do sometimes miss sharing stuffs/thoughts. Many of my friends aren't on Facebook either. I am looking for an alternative to Facebook.

What are the other alternatives HN users use? Also tell me what is good about that alternative.
