Specifically, was this person into tech or programming? Burn out?

What is your definition of 'old'. It's all relative.

But let's start seriously here. You created this account a few days ago, and I'm going to read into this to suggest you've been thinking about this for a long time, and that it took you x number of days to even create the account and then x number more to even post the question. It must have been very difficult, and I'm sure you even tried posting a few times and didn't.

You've taken the first step to get help. But this isn't the place to do it.

Suicide is never the answer, and particularly, it isn't the answer to being burnt out. If you're feeling burnt out, the answer is to stop what you are doing and take some time.

You may be thinking that you can't and that you've got responsibility x,y and z, but you'd be amazed at how a support network will gather around you when you're in need.

Take a deep breath, and recognize that there are better solutions to whatever it is you are facing. Holidays are particularly challenging times for many people.

Reach out to friends, family, find a support group. Somebody here at HN may be able to make recommendations to your local (I'm in Sydney, Aus if that's helpful at all).

Take a deep breath, have a cry to get some relief (yeah, it's more than ok). Take a shower, keep breathing and find someone to talk to who can help.

I hope we keep seeing you around here, and that you can tell your story of triumph one day, and you can help others on the same path.

Yes, and it's hard to think of anything more awful.
If you’re in the US I’d suggest calling 1-800-273-TALK

If you’re in the UK try +44 (0) 8457 90 90 90

If you’re in AU try 08 93 81 5555

If you’re somewhere else I’ll find a number for you if you’d like. No one is going to judge you for calling, you’re not going to be wasting anyone’s time. @pedalpete is giving good advice too.

Never the solution. Burn out happens, getting bored or starting to hate you previous liked (a lot) happens. There's a lot more to life than tech.

Talk to someone and try to take steps to make changes in your life to get you back to a better place.

Suicide is a permanent solution for a temporary probably.
Do you consider Robin Williams "old"?
