Ask HN: Articles on how social media manipulate their users to spend more time?

My sister was asking me for articles on how social media companies manipulate their users to spend more and more time on them. Things like "infinite scrolling" and Snaps "streaks" feature.

I seem to remember an x-google employee? putting out a manifesto suggesting that we should display a timer showing how long you've spent etc. I can't find the link now.

Anyway, if you do have any decent articles on the tricks and risks of using social media, particularly regarding children please pass them on.
