GDPR is not just about "code changes", it includes any entity handling/processing data (marketing, sales, operations,..)- not just code, or the frontend UI.
Maybe it's a consequence of people naturally caring more about their surroundings, but sometimes it seems HN only sees Canada, South America, Africa, Asia and Oceania as minor oddities. All comparisons and debates center around the US vs. Europe.
The problem is that people don’t understand what GDRP is. It’s much more than just how you ask people for access to their private data...there is a whole legal system behind it that’s very specific to how the EU works. It makes no sense to ship GDRP globally...what does make sense is to make the privacy controls available globally and as far as I understand Facebook is doing that
