I personally use them for very different purposes, and to communicate with different sorts of people. I’d suspect many people might be in a similar position.
Not only does he not "run" apple, he doesn't work for them at all as fair as I know. And I also wouldn't say that Facebook and Apple are simply "competing businesses". They certainly have some area of market overlap, but they operate in vastly different spaces with vastly different models.

iMessage doesn't filter or scrape my private conversations. Facebook Messenger is a second class citizen in this regard.
