Which software niches are on the rise?

My team and I did the research on users' interest in different software niches.

Our findings will be useful for tech companies and teams who develop and sell products (SaaS or on-premise).

This was our approach:

1) We analyzed 500+ software categories in Capterra.

2) With the help of AdWords, we extracted search queries for each software category. Data was gathered for the last three years (2015-2017) and later was broken down by months.

3) We compared changes in the volume of queries for each category.

Note that research doesn't include market size numbers.

You always have to take market size into account. A decrease in growth rate of CRM software market, for example, will be compensated by its volume.

If you take a bigger bite (=market share) out of the market pie month over month, you'll win. Considering you also have resources to compete with "big fish." Otherwise, competition will eat you alive.

In our research, we are evaluating the dynamics of software demand. Our goal is to find perspective niches that are growing independently of their current size. Perhaps, they'll become "a hit" very soon.
