Free 3-months F2P Campus in the Basque Country (Spain) for Game Dev Teams
Hey everyone! We are organizing a unique initiative that could be interesting for those of you working in game projects, taking place in the Basque Country (Spain). It's a free campus-accelerator for game dev teams working on free-to-play game projects. If your team is one of the 6 teams selected by the committee, up to 3 people from your team can come to the campus to stay in Vitoria-Gasteiz from mid-July to early October, all costs covered (accommodation, meals, work area). We will help out with travel expenses up to a certain amount (no infinite budget, sorry). Even better, we will bring top mentors every week to help teams with the different challenges of developing a successful F2P game (see mentors page). Finally, we don't ask for any revenue share or equity or anything, just that you help promote that the campus helped you in your project.
Who funds this and why? It's funded by the Basque government, to promote the local game development industry, by running an initiative that can be relevant to game teams and the games industry worldwide. It is a risky move, but we hope it can really produce so much value that some of it will spill over to everyone involved.
Why free-to-play? We feel there is a gap in information about how to be successful in this dominant games business model. We love games in any form, and we are not going to "force" anyone to finally publish their game as F2P, but we wanted a clear focus to maximize the chances of creating something strong, and we expect applications from teams that are at least aiming at a F2P model.
Who is doing this? Local institutions had some budget to invest in games. I (Jon Beltran de Heredia) and my business partner Raul Herrero are long time games veterans (Commandos, Respawnables, Afterpulse...) and when they asked us what could be done, we came up with this concept.
