Ask HN: Is there a market for an open-source, privacy-focused social network?
So there are many great privacy-focuses instant messaging clients (Signal, Telegram etc) but not many privacy-focused social networks.
As a side-project, I'm working on a FB alternative that is private by default. It's shaping up really nicely, so I'm considering turning it into a real product.
There are some concessions (to make it commercial), but overall is much better at respecting data than current platforms. It would be open-source, to prove the claims about data management.
Note: I'm not talking about decentralized alternatives -- they can be unintuitive for non-technical users, and can have problems with illegal content (I.e. cannot remove certain posts). (This isn't universal, but a common theme).
Do you think there'd be a market here? Something with great, modern UI, and super usable to a non-technical end-user.
