As the CEO does he not have some accountability into this culture and dependence upon contractors? I don't possess any knowledge of the internals of Tesla, yet to me this seems like leadership wanted to reduce the cost of headcount and have flexibility in how they dealt with it. Hence the dependence on contractors.
The way people look at contractors and talk down about them is honestly just as offensive if Trump said the CIA or NSA was out to get him.

Elon Musk is complaining about a culture of contracting and sub-contracting with open-ended requirements and they end up making a lot of money in the end. This is really a management problem here; if you have a contractor who is milking a project and you don't reach out to them to have a conversation.

You have done more harm to the company than allowing said contractor to 'milk' the company.

Accountability isn't that hard; nor are performance reviews.

But really what he's talking about is his problem and his management team's problem.

It's a shame Tesla seems to be going the way of General Motors
