Ask HN: Basics of Programming

I am in the process of learning to code and wanted to get recommendations on a course or video series to learn basics of programming.

I am doing the Codeacademy course on Python and, although I'm not great, I think I can figure out that part. The part that confuses me are things like hosting, cron jobs, platforms, deploying code, compiling, etc. It seems like each next step I take there is something else I need to learn about.

As far as writing code to perform an application, I'm confident I can figure it out. Is there a good place to learn all the other stuff?
